AppLES Supported the 8th International Conference Engineering Against Failure (ICEAF VIII) in Kalamata

Applied Laboratory And Engineering Solutions – AppLES had the honor to sponsor the 8th International Conference Engineering Against Failure (ICEAF), held in Kalamata from June 22 to 25, 2025.

Our company has always believed in the importance of scientific knowledge, innovation, and close collaboration between academia and industry. Supporting initiatives like ICEAF is a core pillar of our philosophy, as they promote sustainable development and the exchange of ideas and experiences.

Conference Objectives and Content

The prevention of failures in mechanical structures requires deep expertise and a multidisciplinary approach, considering both scale and time dimensions, tailored to each application. In recent years, failure prevention has been integrated into holistic approaches covering quality, performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of materials and structures.

At the same time, the emergence of new materials and manufacturing methods, such as Additive Manufacturing, has opened new horizons in engineering. Furthermore, the digitalization of engineering through Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, digital twins, and virtual certifications has brought both new opportunities and challenges.

The biennial ICEAF conference provided a platform to present the latest scientific and technological achievements and to engage in discussions with international experts.

Scientific Scope and Applications

The topics covered failure prevention in design, implementation of appropriate guidelines, structural health monitoring and analysis, non-destructive testing, and in-depth understanding of failure causes. Applications spanned fields such as aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, sustainable energy technologies, petrochemicals, civil engineering, biomedical engineering, and more.

ICEAF VIII was co-organized by Professor Emeritus Spyros Pantelakis (University of Patras) and Dr. Spyros Dipla (SINTEF), who held the scientific responsibility for the event.

Special Workshop and Local Organization

As part of the conference, the workshop “Advanced Methods of Simulation and Characterization of Metallic Materials” was held under the auspices of the Hellenic Metallurgical Society, where leading experts presented modern methods of metal modeling and characterization.

The local organizing committee included prominent members from the University of Patras and EASN-TIS, led by Professor Spyros Pantelakis.
